The Asia Research Institute (ARI) at National University of Singapore invites applications for an intensive two-week programme of independent research, training in academic writing, mentorship meetings, skills-based training sessions and an opportunity for an academic conference presentation. Lots of academic networking and intellectual fellowship and exchange.

The Graduate Forum is open to current PhD students and new PhD recipients (awarded in 2023 or after). This forum is specifically focused on humanities and social science research relating to Southeast Asia, defined as ASEAN member countries plus East Timor.

Submission of proposals
Candidates are to submit their applications using the online form available at https://bit.ly/40sos2q by 𝟭𝟱 𝗙𝗲𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱. Successful applicants will be notified by 𝗺𝗶𝗱-𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱.

Requirements & expectations

Successful candidates are expected to submit a draft of their papers by 30 April 2025. This paper will be shared with the relevant research cluster(s) in preparation for their interactions with the participants. Subsequently, participants are required to send in a full-length paper (4,000-5,000 words) by 30 May 2025, and make a presentation of their work at the 20th Singapore Graduate Forum on Southeast Asian Studies on 23-27 June 2025.

Please note that the paper must be based on your own work, and only previously unpublished papers or those not already presented elsewhere can be accepted. You are also highly encouraged to read the Frequently Asked Questions before submitting your application.
