The policy brief “Drivers of Change: Reflecting on the significance of external support on Women, Peace and Security to armed and political movements in Myanmar” explores the impact of the participatory action research project “Observe and Act” in Myanmar. It collects and analyses stories of discourse, policy and process changes, that were perceived by a diverse group of stakeholders as being linked to the project’s approach of involving the leadership of armed and political movements (APMs) and engaging with them in a participatory manner.
The project aims to support the full implementation of the WPS agenda by generating knowledge on the policies and practices of APMs in strengthening the participation and protection of women and girls, as well as on the factors that can influence these processes. In (South-Eastern) Myanmar, it engaged with two movements, the Karen National Union (KNU) and Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), through participatory research and subsequent dialogue in support of the movements’ efforts to implement the WPS Agenda.
